WDG is a South Sudanese NGO working in cooperation with organizations to encourage full community participation in order to fight poverty and promote peace and development for families and communities in Western Bahr El-Ghazal State (WBGS) and surrounding communities.
WDG wasformed in 2000 by a group of women with the aim of alleviating poverty, hunger and diseases caused by conflict in 1997 in Wau and surrounding communities. The conflict resulted in the displacement of large numbers of people from Wau into other villages. When the humanitarian situation in the villages around Wau deteriorated as food stocks were exhausted, resulted in hunger, malnutrition, diseases and deaths. The population decided to return to Wau causing influx in the city. It was against this backdrop that the Women Development Group was formed to support the poor and the needy returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), with an emphasis on female-headed households and vulnerable children.
In March 2001, WDG got registered by State Ministry of Social Development as a non-governmental organization. Currently, WDG renewed registration under Relief and Rehabilitation at national level in accordance with the new NGO act of 2016.
Our vision involves advocating for the rights of women, children, and youth in marginalized societies, irrespective of color, creed, or faith. We strive to ensure their access to healthcare, education, and empowerment initiatives for an improved life, while also building networks with institutions to enhance a brighter future.
WDG is a national non-governmental and non-profit organization that believes in gender equality, dedicated to enabling vulnerable people sustain their livelihoods, support communities in peace building and social justice.
The responsible body of WDG is a Board of Governance comprises of all female members, which meets once a month and is headed by an elected chairperson. The chairperson is elected by and from within general assembly members (155 females) every two years.
WDG’s operations are carried out by management body. The management consists of ExecutiveDirector, Program Manager, AAP Officer, AAP Female Officer for child protection (Accountability to Affected People), Finance Officer, HR Officer and Logistic Officer, FSL Coordinator, Protection Coordinator, GBV Officer, Media and Communication Officer, 3 Community Mobilizers, 4 volunteers, support staff are2 watchmen, 2 drivers and a janitor. The management responsibilities include program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and activities, as well as fund raising and donor relations. Human Resources of WDG are14 staff plus 6 support staff. The staff are based on gender balance 8 males, 7 females, and 4 volunteers female and male.
WDG has safeguarding system as Code of contact, PSEA, Anti-corruption, HR , Finance and procurement policies to guide WDG.
